For grown-ups

Babyweb offers six small games, hands-on Montessori work for ages three to eleven, classical radio, and hand-picked video channels. It is served from one ordinary web server.

What it does not do

On the games, the school and this page: no adverts and no advert networks, no accounts, no sign-in and no e-mail, no analytics, no cookies and no tracking of any kind, no purchases and no chat. Nothing is loaded from another computer — the pages hold their own styles, scripts and sounds, so the only request a game makes is for the game itself.

The two rooms that leave the house

Radio and video play and link to YouTube. Neither one fetches anything until something is tapped: the radio page opens with the player empty, and the channel list is a list of links, not a video player. Once you do tap, YouTube is in the page, and YouTube brings its own adverts, its own cookie, its own suggestions and its own controls — the sound switch at the top of the page does not reach the player, because the volume is inside it. YouTube Premium removes the adverts. The channel list has no search box and no suggestions of our own; every one of those 21 links was checked by hand. Watch together, or pick the thing to watch before handing the screen over. The curriculum also has optional learning resources and links to the educational references; those leave the site only when opened.

Curriculum

Curriculum ages three to eleven are laid out as eight bands, each one year of a Montessori cycle: the Children's House from 3-4 to 5-6, Lower Elementary from 6-7 to 8-9, and Upper Elementary from 9-10 to 10-11. A band holds the areas of the room — practical life, sensorial, language, mathematics and culture in the Children's House; language, mathematics, geometry, biology, geography and history in Elementary — and each area has its presentations in the order they are given, with the material to prepare, the steps, a way to check the work together and a cue for what to offer next. The adult prepares the material, demonstrates slowly, observes, then leaves room for the child to repeat and check their own work. A band is an entry point, not a deadline: the readiness of the child decides when to move on. These home activities follow the American Montessori Society's account of the two planes of development and are not an accredited Montessori school or a substitute for a trained guide and prepared classroom. Optional resource and source links open other websites in a new tab.

What it keeps

The sound switch and your best score are remembered in this browser's own storage, on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere, and clearing site data removes them.

Playing it

Every game works with a finger, a mouse and a keyboard. The arrow keys or W A S D steer the snake, Enter or Space flips a card and picks an answer, and the sound switch sits at the top right of every page. A round never runs longer than a minute, so putting it down is easy.

Running it yourself

These are plain files. Copy the folder onto any web server and point a name at it; there is no database, no build step and no service to keep running. Serve it over HTTPS and the games work offline afterwards from the browser's cache.
